Tokaji is a famous sweet wine from the northern Hungarian region by the same name. The region is comprised of 28 different villages with the most famous vineyards lying in arcal, Mád, Tállya, Mezőzombor, Bodrogkeresztúr, Tolcsva, and Tokaj itself. The principal grape variety is the quite interesting Furmint followed closely by Hárslevelű. Wine styles vary quite a bit, with even the driest of the wines owning some residual sugar. However Tokaji is most renowned for its Aszu and Essencia sweet wines from botrytised grapes.
70% Muskotály, 30% Furmint: Királyudvar produces this internationally-acclaimed cuvée wine from select bunches of heavily botrytized berries. llona is a modern expression of Aszú wine of Tokaji.
Muskotály: A special bottling made from 100% Muscat grapes displaying a darkened straw-color with intense exuberant flavors that conjure up darkened green spices. This uniquely crafted wine is fragrant with many layers that subtly bring out an abundance of vegetal flavors that you might expect to come from a garden. In this bottling, Királyudvar has succeeded in isolating the essence of one of the most charming grape varietals of the Tokaj region.
Muskotály: Florentine gold with a subdued Muscat nose that walks upright in a straight manner. A fine wine with focus and balanced acidity that remains serious without complex layers. A touch of bitterness at the end; a mouth-pleasing finish.
Furmint, Hárslevelu": Seamless wine beginning with its soft buttery nose to a clean entry and finishing dry with subtle mineral notes. One can discover hints of grapefruit and white peach on the palate and a full-bodied fleshiness balanced by superfine green apple acidity in the mouth. This youthful '06 Demi-Sec is now ready for drinking at champagne temperatures. While enjoyable today, we must note that it is a wine still in its infancy that should age fashionably over time.
Hárslevelu": Tightly focused with a crystalline surface, but also surprisingly nuanced with hints of elder flowers and ripe quince, the '06 Hárslevelu" is one of Királyudvar's most interesting wines of the vintage.
