Languedoc
Sort By:

In terms of overrall volume of wine produced, the Languedoc, located in southern France, remains at or near the top for the country. With more focus on quality and increased technology in the cellars, the region offers some of the best value-oriented wine in France. Overrall the Languedoc only produces around 10 percent of France's AOC wines. The earliest appellations were Fitou and Corbieres followed by Minervois and the Coteaux du Languedoc. The most planted variety is the red Carignan closely followed by Grenache, Cinsault, Mouvedre and Syrah. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are not permitted for AOC wines, however they are largely used in Vin de Pays wines. Chardonnay is the most widely planted white grape.  Languedoc is often seen bracketed with its neighbor to south Roussillon.
