Also known as Apulia, this region is located along the Adriatic Coast in Italy's extreme south east. Puglia has long been a major wine producing region due to its extremely warm Mediterrean climate. Historically indigenous red varietals such as Primitivo and Negroamaro were often vinified in mass quantities and shipped north towards the Veneto or even all the way France. Today, as new generations of winemakers emerge Puglia is starting to catch up in terms of quality with Sicily and Campania.
