The assertion that Mendoza is the most important wine-producing province in Argentina is almost a cliché. But it is almost impossible not to make such statements, as this province produces more than 80% of Argentina’s wine from its 150,000 vine-planted hectares. Mendoza’s wine industry increasingly focuses on quality, and on finding the optimum relations between different varieties and terroirs. Mendoza´s diversity is doubtlessly enviable in this respect.
Merlot: A bright ruby red color. At first, the nose is somehow closed with notes of toast and tobacco that seem to cover the red fruit wanting to emerge. The presence of oak is there but only in the background, along with hints of caramel and vanilla. It is now when the red fruit appears as in fresh marmalade… Cherries and strawberries become the main characters. This is an honest, if manly wine, and, even though not completely balanced at the moment, some additional time in the bottle will only allow it to round up its firm and sweet tannins and expose its well defined structure.
