The region running along both sides of the river Loire is one of the most dynamic regions in France. Sparkling, white, red, and sweet from the Loire can, and do, rank among the best in France. The colder weather lends greatly to white varieties, which are the region's focus. To the east of the region lay the appellations of Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé which produce very different interpretations of Sauvignon Blanc. Vouvray, Anjou, and Savennieres focus on Chenin Blanc, and Muscadet Sevre et Maine is home to the quaffable Melon de Bourgogne.
