The late Giacomo Bologna decided, somewhat unusually to focus his production on the Barbera grape. Over time he discovered that Barbera, when put into oak barrels, had the potential to age brilliantly. In the 1980s, Bologna created three distinct cru Barbera wines: Bricco dell'Ucellone, Bricco della Bigota, and Ai Suma. Today, Gicomo's wife and daughter have taken over Braida, expanding production and the tremendous quality of their entire range of wines.

Barbera: Ai Suma is produced from late harvested super-ripe grapes. Of Braida's top three Barbera wines, Ai Suma is often the richest, most modern and opulent in the portfolio.
