Domaine Robert Arnoux, who died in the 1995 at the age of 64, has been succeeded by his son Pascal Lachaux. With 12 hectares of holdings, including portions of Grand Crus Romanee-St-Vivant, Echezeaux, and Clos-de Vougeot, Robert Arnoux produces wines that are rich, sturdy, and tannic. The Grand Crus generally spend half the time in new oak.
Pinot Noir: Allen Meadows, Burghound 89-92 points "A pungent nose of reduction and wood spice though the oak is less apparent on the dusty, intense and round flavors that are mouth coating, delicious and sweet, underpinned by relatively fine tannins and plenty of finishing power. By the usual standards of this wine, it's exceptionally impressive, indeed perhaps the best I have ever seen and it's particularly well balanced."
Pinot Noir: Allen Meadows, Burghound 88-91 points "Spicy red and black fruit aromas trimmed in a deft touch of wood introduce supple, fresh and admirably precise medium full flavors that are attractively textured, sweet and sappy, all wrapped in a slightly toasty finish. This is a high quality villages that should reward 5 to 8 years of bottle age."
