Item RD1172
Merlot, Refosco, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc: This stylish combination of both indigenous and international varietals, creates a complex wine with ripe fruit and earthy tones on the nose, with a lush palate and firm acidic and tannic structure. After barrel aging of 18 months, the wine spends another year in bottle before release.

Merlot: Perched to seize the day as Oak Knoll's foremost Merlot is Blackbird Vineyards, located in the heart of the Oak Knoll District. Since 1999, this former walnut orchard, first planted with 5717 vines two years earlier, has quietly provided fruit to many of Napa's finest winemakers, for whom it has yielded astonishing reviews and stellar scorings. Purchased by entrepreneur Michael Polenske in 2003, who recognized its potential, Blackbird Vineyards is now an ultra premium label in its own right. (Fittingly, 'merlot' is French patois for 'little blackbird.')

Merlot: A bright ruby red color. At first, the nose is somehow closed with notes of toast and tobacco that seem to cover the red fruit wanting to emerge. The presence of oak is there but only in the background, along with hints of caramel and vanilla. It is now when the red fruit appears as in fresh marmalade… Cherries and strawberries become the main characters. This is an honest, if manly wine, and, even though not completely balanced at the moment, some additional time in the bottle will only allow it to round up its firm and sweet tannins and expose its well defined structure.

70% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot: Alisos is a combination of Tuscan-style red wine blending and a labor-intensive Veneto winemaking technique. The Alisos Vineyard is located in the foothills of the Los Alamos Valley. About 15% of the fruit is placed on traditional drying racks in the vineyard, where they are air dried for 100 days; this winemaking method is called appassiemento, and provides a unique component for the blend.

Merlot: The aromas of ripe plum, black currant, and rich spices are balanced with touch of sweet oak and vanilla. Flavors of blackberry, currant, and black cherry dominate the surprisingly full mouth feel, with sweet vanilla as a compliment. The long, firm, dry finish reflects shades of these same flavors.
